FAQs

Everything you need to know about Pointer, Pointers, and Pointees.

General

What is Pointer?

Pointer is a marketplace for real human recommendations. Instead of relying only on AI summaries, ratings, reviews, search results, aggregate platforms, or generic algorithms, Pointer helps people connect with trusted individuals who can share recommendations based on lived experience, personal taste, and real-world context.

What is a Pointer?

A Pointer is someone who shares recommendations based on what they know, where they have been, what they have experienced, and what they genuinely trust. Pointers may earn money by responding to recommendation requests from people looking for guidance.

What is a Pointee?

A Pointee is someone looking for a recommendation. Pointees use Pointer to connect with people who may have more relevant, personal, or experience-based insight than a traditional review platform, search engine, AI tool, or aggregate recommendation service.

Can I be both a Pointer and a Pointee?

Yes, if you meet Pointer eligibility requirements. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, use Pointer, become a Pointer, become a Pointee, earn money through the platform, receive payouts, or provide paid recommendations through the platform.

Do I have to be 18 or older to use Pointer?

Yes. Pointer is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, use Pointer, become a Pointer, become a Pointee, earn money, receive payouts, or provide or request paid recommendations through the platform. Users under 18 are not permitted to create an account or use Pointer. Pointer may collect and use date of birth, account information, and other eligibility information to determine whether a user may access certain features, functionality, payments, payouts, or platform experiences.

Can users under 18 use Pointer?

No. Users under 18 are not permitted to create an account or use Pointer. Pointer may remove, suspend, restrict, or delete accounts where a user does not meet the applicable age or eligibility requirements.

Can Pointers initiate chats with Pointees?

No. Pointer is not designed as an open user-to-user chat marketplace. The only available interaction is a recommendation request submitted by a Pointee to an approved Pointer through the approved product flow. Search only surfaces approved Pointers. Pointees do not appear in search and are not searchable or selectable by other users.

What kinds of recommendations can I get on Pointer?

Pointer is designed for recommendations across lifestyle, culture, and everyday decision-making. Available categories may change or expand over time. Current categories include Auto, Beauty, Career, Dating, Dining, Education, Entertainment, Fashion, Home, Scene, Sports, Tech, Travel, and Wellness. Category availability may be subject to Pointer's product experience, platform rules, and applicable terms.

Does Pointer provide medical, legal, or other licensed professional advice?

No. Pointer does not provide medical advice, legal advice, diagnosis, treatment, emergency guidance, or other licensed professional services. Pointer does not currently offer Legal or Medical as active recommendation categories. The current Wellness category is intended for lifestyle-oriented recommendations, such as fitness routines, recovery, spas, self-care practices, holistic practices, yoga, meditation, and general lifestyle choices that may help a user feel better. Wellness recommendations on Pointer do not include medical diagnoses, treatment plans, clinical advice, medication or supplement dosing, mental health counseling, or anything that requires a licensed healthcare provider. If Pointer adds legal, medical, or other professional-adjacent categories in the future, those categories may be limited to general information, experience-based recommendations, or referrals to appropriately licensed professionals, subject to applicable law and Pointer platform rules. Users should consult an appropriately licensed professional for legal, medical, financial, or other regulated advice.

What does the Wellness category include?

The Wellness category is intended for lifestyle-oriented and experience-based recommendations. This may include fitness routines, recovery options, spas, self-care practices, yoga, meditation, holistic practices, and general lifestyle habits or experiences that may help a user feel better. The Wellness category does not include medical diagnoses, treatment plans, clinical advice, medication or supplement dosing, mental health counseling, emergency guidance, or any recommendation that requires a licensed healthcare provider. Users should not use Pointer as a substitute for a doctor, therapist, attorney, financial advisor, or other licensed professional.

How is Pointer different from review platforms?

Review platforms usually rely on public ratings, anonymous reviews, and aggregated opinions. Pointer is built around trusted people. Instead of asking, "What does everyone think?" Pointer helps you ask, "Who actually knows?"

How is Pointer different from AI and aggregate recommendation services?

AI tools can summarize information, and aggregate platforms can organize large amounts of public reviews, ratings, or search results. Pointer is different because it is built around human judgment, lived experience, personal taste, and context. The goal is not to replace people with AI or another aggregate score. The goal is to help people find the right human insight faster.

Is Pointer only for influencers or creators?

No. Pointer is not only for influencers, creators, celebrities, or people with large audiences. Anyone with useful knowledge, lived experience, taste, or trusted recommendations may apply or be approved to become a Pointer, subject to Pointer eligibility requirements and approval process.

Do I need a large following to become a Pointer?

No. Follower count does not automatically determine whether someone is a good Pointer. Pointer is designed to reward trust, responsiveness, quality, and useful recommendations, not just popularity.

Availability and Country Eligibility

Is Pointer available in every country?

Pointer availability may depend on platform access, legal requirements, payment availability, payout eligibility, age eligibility, safety requirements, and Pointer rollout plan. Because Pointers may earn money through the platform, Pointer accounts and payout eligibility may be limited to countries and regions supported by Pointer payment providers.

Which countries and regions are currently eligible for Pointer payouts?

Pointer payout eligibility may be tied to Stripe-supported countries and regions or other payment providers used by Pointer. Availability may change over time based on payment provider support, legal requirements, account verification, tax requirements, and Pointer rollout plan.

Why is Pointer limited in certain countries or regions?

Pointers may earn money on Pointer, which means payments and payouts need to be processed through supported payment systems. If a payment provider does not support payouts, identity verification, tax forms, or related requirements in a user country or region, that user may not be able to become a Pointer at that time.

Using Pointer as a Pointee

How do I request a recommendation?

Pointees can search for, discover, or be matched with Pointers based on the type of recommendation they need. A request may include what you are looking for, your preferences, location, budget, timing, or other context that helps the Pointer provide a better recommendation.

What should I include in my request?

The more context you provide, the better the recommendation can be.

  • What you are looking for
  • Where you are located or traveling
  • Your budget
  • Your timing
  • Your personal preferences
  • What you want to avoid
  • Whether the recommendation is for you, a date, a group, a client, a family member, or another specific situation
How quickly will I receive a response?

Pointers are generally expected to respond within the applicable response window shown in the product experience or platform rules. Some Pointers may respond faster depending on availability, demand, and the nature of the request.

What happens if a Pointer does not respond?

If a Pointer does not respond within the applicable response window, the Pointee generally will not be charged for a completed recommendation request, subject to payment processing timelines, authorization holds, platform rules, and the terms that apply to the transaction. Repeated missed responses may affect a Pointer status, visibility, or eligibility to receive future requests.

When is a Pointee charged?

Charges may apply when a Pointer responds to a request according to Pointer platform rules, payment flow, and applicable terms. Specific payment timing may depend on the product experience, payment processor, transaction status, authorization holds, and applicable platform rules.

Can I message a Pointer before paying?

This depends on the product flow and request type. Pointer may allow certain profile details, categories, previews, or matching tools to help a Pointee decide whether a Pointer is the right fit before submitting a paid request.

Can I request a recommendation from a specific Pointer?

Yes, if that Pointer is active, available, and eligible to receive requests.

Can Pointer match me with someone automatically?

Pointer may offer tools that help match Pointees with relevant Pointers based on category, location, interests, prior experience, availability, profile information, or other signals.

Can I ask follow-up questions?

Follow-up rules may vary depending on the request type, Pointer availability, user eligibility, safety settings, and product settings. Some recommendation interactions may include limited follow-up, while others may require a new request. Pointer may manage, limit, conclude, or restrict conversation threads where appropriate, including for safety, quality control, user experience, dispute resolution, policy enforcement, or applicable law.

Are recommendations guaranteed to be perfect?

No. Pointer is built around human recommendations, which means each recommendation is based on the Pointer experience, taste, judgment, and available information. Pointers are expected to be thoughtful, honest, and helpful, but Pointer does not guarantee that every recommendation will perfectly match every Pointee preferences, expectations, or circumstances.

Can I leave feedback after receiving a recommendation?

Yes. Pointee feedback helps Pointer maintain quality, evaluate Pointer performance, and improve the overall platform experience. Feedback may be used internally to help determine quality, trust, safety, and Pointer Status eligibility.

Can I tip a Pointer?

Yes. Tips are optional. Pointees may choose to tip when a Pointer provides a thoughtful, detailed, or especially helpful recommendation.

Using Pointer as a Pointer

How do I become a Pointer?

To become a Pointer, you must be at least 18 years old, create a profile, complete onboarding, select your areas of knowledge, and be approved by the Pointer team or platform process. Pointer may review profiles for completeness, quality, authenticity, safety, eligibility, payment availability, and category fit.

Why do Pointers have to be 18 or older?

All Pointer users must be at least 18 years old. Pointers may also earn money through the platform. Because earning money may involve payments, payouts, account verification, tax considerations, and financial responsibility, Pointers must be at least 18 years old.

Can Pointers initiate chats with Pointees?

No. Pointers cannot initiate chats with Pointees. A recommendation interaction begins when a Pointee submits a request to an approved Pointer through the approved product flow, subject to platform rules, safety settings, and applicable law.

What can I recommend as a Pointer?

Pointers can recommend things they genuinely know, trust, or have experience with, subject to Pointer platform rules. This may include approved categories such as Auto, Beauty, Career, Dating, Dining, Education, Entertainment, Fashion, Home, Scene, Sports, Tech, Travel, Wellness, or other categories made available by Pointer. Pointers should not provide legal advice, medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, emergency guidance, or other licensed professional services through Pointer unless expressly permitted by Pointer rules and applicable law.

Can I give health or medical advice in the Wellness category?

No. Pointers in the Wellness category should limit recommendations to lifestyle and experience-based topics. Pointers should not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, suggest medication or supplement dosing, provide clinical advice, provide mental health counseling, or position themselves as healthcare professionals through Pointer. Users should consult an appropriately licensed healthcare provider for medical, mental health, diagnosis, treatment, medication, supplement, or other regulated advice.

Do I have to accept every request?

Pointers may be able to control their availability or choose whether they are open to receiving requests, depending on product settings. Once a Pointer receives or accepts a request under the applicable platform rules, they are expected to respond within the required response window.

How quickly do I need to respond?

Pointers are generally expected to respond within the applicable response window shown in the product experience or platform rules. Fast and reliable responses help improve the Pointee experience and may affect Pointer status, visibility, and trust.

What makes a good Pointer response?

A strong Pointer response is clear, thoughtful, specific, and useful.

  • A direct answer
  • Why the recommendation makes sense
  • Helpful context
  • What to expect
  • Any watch-outs or alternatives
  • Personal insight that a generic search result may not provide
Can I use AI to write my recommendations?

Pointer is built around human experience and personal judgment. Pointers should not rely on AI to create recommendations they cannot personally stand behind. AI may be used as a writing or formatting aid only if the final recommendation reflects the Pointer actual knowledge, taste, and experience.

Can I recommend businesses I am affiliated with?

Pointers should disclose any material relationship, sponsorship, ownership, employment, commission, referral arrangement, or other conflict of interest that could affect the recommendation. Transparency helps maintain trust on the platform.

Can I promote my own business?

This depends on the context and applicable platform rules. Pointers should not use Pointer to spam, mislead, or disguise advertising as a recommendation. If a Pointer recommends their own business, product, or service, that relationship should be clearly disclosed where required.

Can I be removed as a Pointer?

Yes. Pointer may remove, limit, suspend, or otherwise restrict a Pointer for behavior that violates platform rules, trust and safety standards, quality expectations, or applicable laws. This may include missed responses, misleading recommendations, inappropriate conduct, fraud, spam, abuse, repeated complaints, unsafe behavior, attempts to manipulate the platform, or violations of safety rules.

Pricing

How is pricing determined on Pointer?

Pricing may vary by Pointer. Pointers may be able to set their own price for recommendation requests, subject to Pointer product rules, applicable terms, and platform settings. Two Pointers may recommend within the same category but charge different prices based on their own pricing preferences, demand, experience, availability, or perceived value.

Does Pointer set the same price for everyone in a category?

No. Pointer does not require every Pointer in the same category to charge the same amount, unless otherwise stated in the product experience or applicable platform rules.

Why do different Pointers charge different amounts?

Different Pointers may have different levels of experience, demand, availability, knowledge, audience, status, or personal pricing preferences. A Pointer price may help a Pointee decide who they want to request a recommendation from based on fit, trust, category, profile, and price.

Payments, Refunds, and Tips

Do Pointees pay for recommendations?

Yes. Pointer allows Pointees to pay for recommendation requests from Pointers. Pricing may vary by Pointer, request type, product flow, and applicable platform rules.

What happens if a Pointer does not respond?

If a Pointer does not respond within the applicable response window, the Pointee generally will not be charged for a completed recommendation request, subject to payment processing timelines, authorization holds, platform rules, and the terms that apply to the transaction.

Can I request a refund?

Yes, in certain cases. A Pointee may request a refund if there is an issue with a recommendation request. Refund requests may be reviewed by Pointer support based on the details of the interaction, applicable platform rules, payment status, and the terms that apply to the transaction.

When might a refund be considered?

A refund may be considered if:

  • The Pointer responded but did not provide a recommendation
  • The response was incomplete or clearly unrelated to the request
  • The interaction violated Pointer platform rules
  • There was a payment or technical issue
  • Pointer determines a refund is appropriate after review
Are refunds automatic?

Not always. Refunds may be reviewed according to Pointer refund practices, payment processor rules, applicable platform policies, and the details of each situation.

How do Pointers earn money?

Pointers may earn money by completing paid recommendation requests. Earnings may vary based on price, demand, activity, completion rate, quality, category, repeat trust, and tips. Pointer may charge a platform fee, commission, processing fee, or other applicable fee from completed transactions.

How much can Pointers earn?

Earnings vary. Pointer does not guarantee any specific earnings, income, demand, request volume, or payout amount.

When do Pointers get paid?

Payout timing may depend on the payment processor, transaction status, refund window, account verification, tax requirements, and Pointer payout schedule.

What payment provider does Pointer use?

Pointer may use one or more third-party payment processors to manage payments, payouts, identity verification, tax forms, and related financial services.

Are there fees?

Pointer may charge platform fees, processing fees, commissions, or other applicable fees. Any applicable fees should be disclosed in the product experience, payment flow, or applicable terms.

What happens if a request is refunded?

Refunded requests may not count toward Pointer Status or completed recommendation totals. Repeated refunds may affect a Pointer standing on the platform.

Are tips required?

No. Tips are optional. Pointees may choose to tip when a Pointer provides a thoughtful, detailed, or especially helpful recommendation.

Ratings, Feedback, and Trust

Are star ratings public?

No. To help protect user reputations and avoid turning Pointer into a public rating contest, star ratings are not publicly displayed. Pointer may use ratings and feedback internally to help evaluate quality, trust, safety, and Pointer Status eligibility.

Why are star ratings private?

Pointer keeps star ratings private to protect user reputations and encourage honest feedback without unnecessary public pressure, retaliation, or performative behavior.

Can I leave feedback?

Yes. Pointees may be able to leave feedback after receiving a recommendation. Feedback helps Pointer evaluate quality, identify issues, improve the platform, and support a better experience for both Pointees and Pointers.

What does Pointer consider when evaluating quality?
  • Completed recommendation requests
  • Response speed
  • Pointee feedback
  • Private internal ratings
  • Repeat interactions
  • Refunds
  • Disputes
  • Complaints
  • Trust and safety issues
  • Account activity
  • Profile quality
  • Category expertise
Can users report a problem?

Yes. Users may submit a report through the platform or contact Pointer support. Pointer may review reports involving missed responses, inappropriate behavior, low-quality recommendations, misleading information, safety concerns, payment issues, or other violations of platform rules.

Can Pointer review messages or activity?

Pointer may review platform activity when necessary to operate the service, enforce policies, resolve disputes, investigate safety concerns, maintain platform quality, or comply with legal obligations, subject to Pointer Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Pointer Status

What are Pointer Status levels?

Pointer Status levels recognize Pointers who consistently provide helpful recommendations, respond reliably, maintain strong feedback, and build trust with Pointees over time. Every approved Pointer starts as a Standard Pointer. As Pointers complete more recommendation requests and maintain strong performance, they may become eligible for higher status levels. Current Pointer Status levels may include Standard, Pro, Legend, Icon, and Platinum. Pointer may update, rename, add, remove, or modify status levels over time.

What is a Standard Pointer?

A Standard Pointer is an approved Pointer who has completed onboarding and is eligible to receive recommendation requests. Standard is the starting level for approved Pointers.

What is Pro status?

Pro is an earned Pointer Status level for Pointers who have shown consistent responsiveness and quality. Eligibility may depend on completed recommendation requests, response rate, internal quality ratings, user feedback, account activity, and trust and safety review.

What is Legend status?

Legend is an earned Pointer Status level for highly trusted Pointers who have shown strong consistency, quality, and demand over time. Eligibility may depend on completed recommendation requests, response rate, internal quality ratings, user feedback, repeat interactions, account activity, and trust and safety review.

What is Icon status?

Icon is an earned Pointer Status level for standout Pointers who consistently deliver exceptional recommendations and build meaningful trust on the platform. Eligibility may depend on completed recommendation requests, response rate, internal quality ratings, user feedback, repeat interactions, account activity, and trust and safety review.

What is Platinum status?

Platinum is the highest and most selective Pointer Status level. It is reserved for Pointers who demonstrate rare consistency, exceptional quality, strong repeat demand, and long-term trust on the platform. Platinum is not awarded automatically based on numbers alone. Final approval may be subject to internal review by the Pointer team.

What counts as a completed recommendation request?

A completed recommendation request generally means that a Pointee submitted a request, the Pointer responded within the applicable response window, and the Pointer provided a recommendation that was not refunded, disputed, flagged, or abandoned. A response alone does not necessarily count as a completed recommendation. If a Pointer responds but does not actually provide a recommendation, that interaction may not count toward Pointer Status and may be eligible for review.

Can a Pointer lose their status?

Yes. Pointer Status is based on ongoing performance. A Pointer may lose or be moved down from a status level if they no longer meet the applicable requirements, stop being active, receive repeated complaints, miss too many responses, violate Pointer community, quality, or trust and safety standards, or violate platform rules.

Can celebrities or public figures automatically become Platinum?

Not necessarily. Pointer Status is designed to reflect trust, consistency, quality, and contribution on the platform. Celebrity status, follower count, or outside influence does not automatically qualify someone for Platinum. In some cases, Pointer may grant special status, badges, or designations to founders, team members, ambassadors, strategic partners, or approved participants. These designations may be reviewed separately from standard earned status.

Can ambassadors receive special status?

Pointer may selectively grant special ambassador status, badges, or designations as part of approved partnerships, campaigns, or growth programs. Ambassador status is separate from standard earned Pointer Status and may be reviewed differently by the Pointer team.
